Upon aquiring this property, owners were faced with updating
the look of the restaurant located on historic Selby Avenue in
Saint Paul. To solve the problem of large blank walls, several
large tapestry murals, or wall hangings, were commissioned to
dress up the space.
The character depicted in the murals below is Pulcinella,
often called Punch in English, and is a classical character that
originated in the
Commedia dell'arte of the
17th century and became a historic character in
Neapolitan
puppetry. His name means little chicken (Pulcino = day-old
chick in Italian). His full name is Pulcinella Cetrulo (citrulo
= fool). Pulcinella's main characteristic, from which he
acquired his name, is his extremely long nose, which resembles a
beak. He represents a foolish jester, often drunk and
instigating problems between characters.
